What is CBD?

Cannabis oil, which is a derivative of hemp. This oil contains CBD or cannabidiol, a component present in some of the many cannabis varieties. Unlike THC which has psychoactive powers, cannabidiol does not. Much interest has been seen around CBD and its potential related to health benefits.

What is CHABA?

CHABA stands for Cannabis Health & Beauty Aids. These are full plant cannabis topicals , that come from the marijuana side of the plant, that have no more than 0.3% THC, are non-intoxicating (non-euphoric, and will not get you high), and they are not for human/animal consumption.

History of Chaba

As of July 2015 House Bill 2136 in Washington State passed (RCW 69.50.575). There were many parts to this bill, but most importantly to the massage industry is part VII, which defines CHABA and exempts them from all regulations in the state’s Controlled Substance Act (CSA) pertaining to marijuana. This means CHABA are not considered a drug in WA state and to the WA Department of Health, the entity responsible for licensing massage therapists. Since CHABA are not considered a drug in Washington, it is the only full plant cannabis (from the marijuana side) infused product that is legally allowed for use by WA licensed massage therapists.

Washington is the first and only state currently allowing medical practitioners to legally incorporate CHABA products into their practices. They fall into their own category as an exception to the Washington Initiative 502³, allowing recreational use in 2012. As of 2015, CHABA now has its own law⁴.

Local organizations who believe in the healing properties of this plant are working hard to pass a bill to end marijuana prohibition. They attempted and failed in 2011, 2013, 2015, and 2017.

How long does it last?

Generally, the effects of CHABA products last 2-6 hours and typically stays in your system for 2 to 5 days, but that range doesn't apply to everyone. For some, CHABA products can stay in their system for weeks.

Benefits of chaba:

Cannabinoid receptors, which regulate and reduce the perception of pain, are located in the central nervous system, brain, connective tissue, glands, organs, and skin. With the use of CHABA, they actually repress the pain signals your neurotransmitters send to the brain so the signal stops completely, causing your muscles and surrounding structures, like joints, to come out of self-defense mode and relax.
